I wish to send my congratulations and moral support to you and your supporters for the convincing victory in the Labour Party leadership election. I represent an organisation called the Workers’ Party Group in Sweden. I’ve been a municipal councillor in Umeå, a major city in northern Sweden, since 1991. We have two representatives on the municipal council and a long tradition of fighting against cuts both in the local parliament – and outside. We were inspired by your victory and we can assure you that we are not the only ones. The focus, for the last couple of years, has been on Greece and Syriza. But Britain carries a much bigger weight in Europe and internationally. What happens in the Labour Party will also influence the Social Democratic and Socialist parties in countries such as Germany, France, Sweden, and the other Nordic countries. Your victory could develop to become a truly “game changing” event – away from the neo-liberal policies that have dominated Europe for over 30 years.
We have seen how you’re being hammered by the media in Britain and we wish we could do more that just send you this congratulation and moral support. And we will try to figure out a way to do that. But meanwhile, once again: CONGRATULATIONS!
